Finbarr Martin is consultant geriatrician at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in London (now part-time) and honorary professor of Medical Gerontology at King’s College London. He has worked in a broad range of hospital and community services for older people, and his department has developed and evaluated several new models of care, based on applications of multidisciplinary comprehensive geriatric assessment. His research interests are in the “geriatric syndromes” of falls, frailty and delirium and service innovations to address these clinical challenges. He was clinical lead for the English Department of Health strategy on falls and fracture (2010) and is currently clinical lead for the national audit programmes on falls and fragility fractures. He was president of the British Geriatrics Society (2010- 2012) and has recently been appointed as president elect of EUGMS.
